Home Safety Modifications a Key to Successful Independent Living Nevada Senior Services RAMP Program

Not deterred by the challenges of COVID-19, RAMP continues to offer our senior community critical home safety modifications.

Nevada Senior Services in addition to operating adult day care centers in Las Vegas and Henderson offers many valuable programs and services to our community. The RAMP (Renovate Accessible Mobility Prevention) Program enables seniors and persons with disabilities to achieve the safety and independence they deserve in their own home, by offering affordable solutions for home modifications. Seniors who may have difficulty with walking or maintaining their balance can benefit. Seniors who may not feel safe in their own home and are at risk of falling indoors or outdoors can also benefit.

CEO Jeffrey Klein states “our professional, caring and skilled RAMP home modification installers can install grab bars in bathrooms, handheld showers and adaptable faucets, raised toilet seats, and make bath tub cut-outs for shower conversions. They can also install handrails for stairs and hallways and ramps leading to and from a front or back door, a porch, patio or deck.”

RAMP also offers basic home maintenance services such as changing out smoke detectors or batteries, light bulbs and air filters and a host of other services to improve safety and accessibility inside the home. These services can improve the quality of life for seniors living at home alone or with little or no regular in-home support and in turn provide support to caregivers.

RAMP has grant-funded support from the Nevada Aging and Disability Services Division which makes it possible to offer free or reduced cost services to seniors who qualify. An initial phone call with a RAMP Consultation Specialist can determine whether a senior is eligible for grant support. After a thorough assessment is made, recommendations are provided to increase accessibility, mobility, and safety within the home whether it be a house or an apartment. Pricing and funding information is also provided so potential recipients fully understand the installation timing, scheduling and available financial arrangements.

CEO Jeffrey Klein further states “making a home safe can be a critical factor in keeping someone at home. As a trusted non-profit we take that mission seriously, no senior is turned away because of ability to pay. Seniors who do not quality for grant-funded installations will be offered the opportunity to access RAMP services on a fee for service or sliding scale basis. Our RAMP Consultation Specialist can clearly outline financial options to any interested seniors or family caregivers.”

Nevada Senior Services is a licensed contractor. In response to Covid-19, RAMP staff are required to wear facial coverings at all times and practice safety protocols. Facial coverings are required for all in-person interactions and to facilitate safe face-to-face consultation with a client or caregiver during home inspection visits and installations. Virtual assessments are available as an option for many families.
